How Big Cats React to Their Own Reflections

This is a very cute, fun clip. I had no idea that even big cats wouldn’t like their reflection that much. It’s so cute how some cats reacted.

They carried out this experiment at the Big Cat Rescue animal sanctuary & it has been discovered that big cats don’t like mirrors as such. They were not at all pleased to see another big cat staring back at them. Although smaller cats were a bit more curious just like pet cats but they too were scared. They reacted just like any pet cat. I just love how the Bobcat reacted. It was too cute.

Mirror tests have been done on several other species. Gorillas, chimps, dolphins & elephants have been intelligent to know that it was their own reflection. They weren’t as such bothered.

Big cats, however, have behaved just like pet cats. When they see themselves in the mirror, some get mad to see their own reflection & some are very curious to know as to who is this other cat. Over all, I think this was a cute video. Cats are really majestic creatures, but it’s weird that they don’t admire themselves in the mirror.

Btw, Big Cat Rescue is a non-profit organization that opened its doors in 1992 & now it’s home to more than 100 exotic felines. They make videos of animals to educate people.

Entire Village in India Relocates to Make Room For Tigers

An entire community in India has been relocated to make room for tigers that are in need of some extra space. Their popular has been on the decline & this could help them a great deal.

Last week, some 350 residents of Umri, a village in an important wildlife preserve in the northern region of Sariska, moved to another location nearby just to provide some space to these big cats. But this wasn’t done without any incentive. These villagers are compensated with land, cash and livestock worth up to 1 million rupees ($20,000). Moreover, Umri is actually the second village to relocate entirely on account of helping tigers. And in the future, four other communities too will be relocated.

It’s saddening but over the course of a century, the number of tigers have been reduced by over 98 percent owing to encroaching development in India. In recent decades, the establishment of protected zones, like the Sariska Tiger Reserve, have enabled the species to avoid extinction for now. From an estimated population of 100,000 at the turn of last century, a 2011 census reveals that a mere 1,700 now exist in India.
