Yeh Kya Hua – Amar Prem

I think it’s essential to post this kind of song on Speak Your Mind as well. I believe you don’t just think, but you go beyond it while listening to it. Both the movie & this song touch your heart, provided you have one.

I have seen Amar Prem a couple of times while I was a kid & I think it’s an amazing movie that portrays the decadence of human values & how they judge humans. In this movie, a prostitute worries more about somebody else’s child & that’s touching & even that boy never forgets her. And you know the society is responsible to a great extent for creating prejudices & that was the reason why Sharmila Tagore stops meeting Rajesh Khanna & that little boy whose step mom was so mean.

Anyhow, I really liked how in the end Vinod Mehra takes Sharmila Tagore home as if she’s his real mother. He gave such fabulous expressions when a man was getting mad at Sharmila Tagore for not working quickly.

Now coming to the song. Kishore Kumar has sung it well. In fact that would be an understatement.

These are pertinent questions. Only a person who could feel can raise them or understand them.

“Yeh kya hua?, Kaise hua? , Kab hua?, Kyon hua? , Jab hua tab hua, O chorro yeh na soccho!”

Anyhow I really like this stanza:

"Hum kyon shikwa kare jhoote
 Kya hua jo dil toota
Sheeshe ka khilona tha
Kuch na kuch tou hona thaa hua

In fact bas yeh hee hota hai dil kay saath. (Speaking of which reminds me that some people have so much issues with the fact that people scribble in Urdu on their blogs. We don't run newspapers & there is not written anywhere that we are prohibited to write something in our mother tongue on the blog & if there is such a rule, we gladly fuck it!) Anyhow, it is like people think they have the right to break your heart. It’s some kind of a worthless toy for them. And taking someone for granted is a very old thing. Some people just stay rotten. You know same thing happens again & again.

There is too much pain in the song. It shakes one up. I mean only if you could feel it. It’s not for everyone.

Jaane jaan dhoondhta phir raha hoon tumhein - Jawani Diwani

Wow this film was released in 1972, that is, much before I was born. I feel so much younger :P

I haven’t seen this movie but I think Jaya Bachchan & Randir Kapoor looked good together.

Since this film is famous for its songs, naturally most of us have heard & seen them. And the credit of course goes to R. D. Burman, Anand Bakshi, Asha Bhosle, & Kishore Kumar.

I like this particular song, cause there is so much intensity in these lines:

“Jaanejaan dhoondhta phir raha hoon tumhein raat din
Main yahan se wahan
Mujhko aawaaz do chhup gaye ho sanam tum kahan”

However, it’s not my favourite song or anything. I just like the way they say ‘Main yahan, Tum kahan.’ You know what I mean. I like this kind of thing.

It’s basically the main stanza which is catchy. And for once Jaya Bachchan looked nice.

I also like the other song "Saamne Yeh Kaun Aaya," and my sister loves "Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani.” In fact the remix of Saamne yeh kaun aaya was just awesome. It was so much fun to watch it.

And yes Karishma Kapoor looks a lot like her father.

Chalte Chalte Yunhi Koi Mil Gaya Tha – Pakeezah

Very nicely sung by Lata! Kaifi Azmi wrote brilliant lyrics that touch your heart & not just that, it forces you to think.

Pakeezah was released in 1972 & shortly, after the release, Meena Kumari died. As it is, she was very ill when she resumed working in the movie. It nearly took 14 years to shoot the movie. Actually it was written, directed & produced by Kamal Amrohi. Meena Kumari was married to him when they started off the film but it couldn't be completed owing to the differences between the two of them. Nargis & Sunil Dutt, however, convinced Meena Kumar to complete the film. But she was so ill that in most of the scenes she was seen sitting & Padma Khanna was used as a body double in dance sequences.

I don't have to think too hard in this one. My favourite lines are:
'Shabe intezaar aakhir kabhi hogi muqtasar bhi
Yeh chiraag bujh rahe hain meray saath jalte jalte.'

The entire song is very painful. 'Vahin thamke rahe gayi hai, meri raat dhalte dhalte.'

A thing that might not mean anything to the other person has been a ray of hope for someone...Hope & waiting are weird things. One lifts you up & the other kills you. Delays can be so devastating.

And I'm sure many can relate to the line yeh chiraag bujh rahe hain meray saath jalte jalte.
