Zach Avery – the girl trapped in the body of a boy

Well this is the 1st thing I read in the morning. Since Zach Avery liked to be called Zachy, so I will call him that.

Zachy was just three year old when he said to his mother : ‘Mummy I’m a girl’ but his mother didn’t take it that seriously. She thought it was some phase but it continued. He didn’t like being referred to as a girl & he also wanted to dress up like females. In fact he used to cry & wanted to cut off his penis. Naturally the family decided to seek help.

Anyway after a couple of months, doctors diagnosed Zachary with gender identity disorder, & that makes him one of the youngest children in Britain who believe he has been born the wrong sex.

The good thing is that besides his family, even his primary school has supported him. They have informed other kids that Zachy feels trapped in a boy’s body. His mother wants to raise awareness about this psychiatric condition which is known as gender dysphoria.

She admitted: “I would love to have my son back, but I want him to be happy. If this is the route he wants to take, if this is what makes him happy, then so be it. I would rather him have my full support.

“People need to be aware of this condition because it’s very common but even many family support workers have never heard of cases in children.”

I’m sure this kind of thing must be happening everywhere but unfortunately those people do not have moral support of their families…forget about the world that doesn’t miss a single opportunity of judging a person or finding faults in him. We cannot even imagine as to how gender identity disorder could drive the individual mad. These people get depressed when they are not being understood & for the most part, they are being ridiculed & harassed by others for being who they are. Many of them even commit suicide as sex change surgery or even the idea of changing sex is too much for everyone. I believe Zachy’s mom has taken the right step. People need to get educated about this psychiatric condition.

We wish Zachy a beautiful life! And I really admire his family for being so damn supportive. It could have marred his personality, if they had persisted he was a boy. He could have harmed himself as he even tried to get rid of his penis.

You know I don’t share such stories to tell you all what an open mind I am but I do that just to let closed minds know that this is a serious problem (even though it wouldn’t make much difference…they’ll remain thick heads & continue to judge) but this kind of situation can lead to a terrible mental state in which the individual is left with no other choice but to commit suicide.

Yesterday I read: ‘Think! It’s not illegal yet.’ Make the most of the situation while you’re allowed to think. Who knows a day might come when they won’t let you think. Then what? And it wouldn't hurt a bit if besides thinking about yourself, you also try to understand that other people also have real & big problems.

Gruesome party pictures of Cynthia Lee

Cynthia Lee of Michigan posted some gruesome party pictures on her FB account just few days before she shot herself.

She was 23 years old & it has been reported that she was having problem dealing with her mother’s death & the recent arrest of her partner. She updated her FB status before she committed suicide. Her Facebook page is no longer online. Moreover, she killed herself while other family members were home and with a weapon owned by her grandfather.

It’s a strange trend of updating FB status before killing yourself. Even though people leave suicidal notes yet nobody has ever been able to rescue them. It’s very ironic. Few days ago, a man updated his status after killing two young people & then committed suicide.

Anyhow, Cynthia wrote 'I can't handle this s*** anymore' and added that her pain was 'too strong to handle any longer'.

Btw, she has left behind three kids.

It’s quite clear this woman had been disturbed. I wonder if she was taking meds at all. I feel sorry for her kids. Cynthia herself lost her mother in 2007 but I guess she was not in the right frame of mind to think about her three kids while taking this drastic step. Even these strange pictures indicate something was terribly wrong with Cynthia. She needed help. Instead she ended her life.

May her soul rest in peace!

Brad Pitt suffered from depression

Lately Brad Pitt has admitted that he suffered from depression in 1990s & he used to smoke too much marijuana at that time.

"I see it as a great education, as one of the seasons or a semester – this semester I was majoring in depression. I was doing the same thing every night and numbing myself to sleep, the same routine – couldn't wait to get home and hide out. But that feeling of unease was growing and one night I just said; 'this is a waste'."

Yeah anyone who has experienced addiction knows it’s a waste; it’s not the right way to deal with depression. I also think it requires a lot of courage to admit that you once had or you have some mental illness.

Brad Pitt has been nominated for Best Actor Oscar for his role in Moneyball.

Check out his pics.

Peacemaker – cure for depression

People suffering from depression and bipolar disorder who don't respond to drugs and therapy can find relief now from their symptoms. Scientists claim to have developed a "brain pacemaker" that can cure depression through an electronic stimulus. The discovery raises hopes for countless who are suffering from severe depression & bipolar disorder. But this process involves drilling holes into the skull & then attaching electrodes to the brains. Actually electrodes are planted into the brain to stimulate one of the areas involved in mood control. But psychiatrists warn such "surgery" is a drastic measure that must be used with caution.

Usually I’m excited about such scientific developments & I’m really happy for all those whose chronic illnesses have been treated by this method & now they are all doing much better. But it’s kind of scary. Drilling 2 small holes into your skull & then inserting 2 thin electrode wires into your brain. The other ends of the wires are threaded under the scalp down to the lower neck area. Next, the patient undergoes a general anaesthetic to have a pulse generator implant, the "pacemaker", sewn in under the skin of their chest. Fine you end up with a brighter mood & I’m sure it’s an amazing answer to all the problems of untreatable clinical depression but nevertheless it's very, very scary.

Honestly speaking, the idea itself makes me go off my head but good to know there is finally a cure. Depression is the kind of illness that asks for drastic measures. You look healthy but you don’t have the stamina to do anything. Your neurotransmitter shoots every now & then, & you can’t even talk about it with your bestest buddy or sibling or loved one, cause how can anyone know the torment when you look perfect? It seems as if you’re imagining stuff. Depression is triggered sometimes even without any reason. Many a times, you are happy & yet you show symptoms of depression, & taking the god-damn meds is never an exciting thing, cause you know your health will deteriorate more. The idea of committing suicide crosses your mind every day & it’s not an exaggeration. Believe me, it’s every god-damn day even when it seems you’re doing much better. You can’t even say it aloud, cause it sounds like you’re asking for attention & you want people to pity you. No wonder most of the patients are isolated. What other option do they have? Btw, bipolar disorder is even worse than depression.

Anyhow, this is what biggies have to say.

Dr Helen Maybery, who led the research, said: "These people were not just having a bad day. They were beyond suicidal; they were too apathetic and disengaged to be bothered. They described their state as dead and deader. I see depression as a brain disease not as a chemical imbalance like most psychiatrists. The brain is not a bowl of soup. You cannot just add a chemical and stir. It is a very intricate wiring system. Some circuits were not working for these people. Once we turned on the stimulator, the changes were astounding."

Study co-author Paul Holtzheimer from Dartmouth Medical School said: 'Most of these patients have been in a depressed state for many years and are disabled and isolated. As their depression improves, they need a process to help them achieve full recovery that includes integration back into society. We hope to optimise the rate of improvement for these patients by using a model of care that provides psychotherapeutic rehabilitation built on evidence-based psychotherapy but tailored to the specific individual's situation.'

The study was published Online First by Archives of General Psychiatry.

Psychotic Man Fooled Depressed Kids Into Suicide Pacts

Nadia Kajouji

Mark Drybrough

William Melchert Dinkel - the man who talked to vulnerable and depressed people online and convinced them to get into a suicide pact and take their lives because it was the easiest way to end their suffering.

This is a very sad true story. In 2008, a young girl disappeared from her dorm room at Carleton University. Upon investigation, her body was found in Rideau River. She was a suicide victim.

However, unlike most 19 year old kids who commit suicide, Nadia Kajouji was a well liked girl but she was suffering from a severe depression ever since she had moved to her dorm room. Her friends and family knew a bit but not all.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Nadia was chatting with an online buddy whom she thought was a female nurse and with whom she had entered into a suicide pact. The nurse had made her believe, that it is the best way to end this suffering and that is to do it together.

Sadly, Nadia is no longer alive to know that she was chatting with a psycho who was 48 year old, William Melchert Dinkel. William used to identify depressed people online and entered into suicide pacts but had no intention of taking his own life. He advised vulnerable people on the most painless and effective ways to kill themselves.

William was found guilty for aiding Nadia Kajouji and Mark Drybrough from UK to take their lives. He was sentenced for six and half years in jail and 15 years in probation. However, most of the sentence has been suspended. He can easily get away with only 320 days in prison and then return to jail for two days in the next ten years i.e. on the death anniversaries of Kajouji and Drybrough.
I feel this is unfair punishment for the crime he had committed. Two kids lost their lives because he fooled them. Most people on the internet say this is a very light punishment for what he did and are not happy about it.

It is so saddening to see how kids talk to strangers about their depression and feelings. It makes them vulnerable and like most cases, internet can be gross and you can never know what sort of psychopath are you dealing with on the other side of the screen. Some people like William end up playing with the already disturbed minds of some kids and the damage is so brutal that they even end up taking their lives. The crazy man is alive and the depressed kids are no more. It all seems so unfair.

Michael Douglas Says Catherine Was Depressed Cause Of 'Stiff Upper Lip'

Michael Douglas talked to Oprah Winfrey on her show about his wife's depression. He said that it was Catherine Zeta Jone's upbringing that stressed her even more.

He said that she grew up in an environment where she was not allowed to express her emotions and she totally broke from inside when she heard about Michael's throat cancer.

Zeta was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder because of all the mental stress she has been under for all this time dealing with her husband's illness. Michael admitted that his health problems made his wife's illness worse.

Michael said he is the sort of person who makes no fuss about things and needs no attention. So when he heard of his cancer, he got ready for his treatment but Catherine took the strain big time all this while.

According to Michael, Catherine is Welsh and they have this 'stiff upper lip' and do not show their feelings. She was under pressure in the last one and half year but she never spoke about it.

Michael was very candid when he told Oprah, that in the last year his oldest son was in prison, his ex wife was suing him and he got cancer on top of it. It became difficult for Catherine to say in all this while that she was 'depressed'.

But the way she coped with the situation made him feel really proud of Catherine and he is happy that she dealt with her depression in a mature manner. Now Catherine is back to work and is busy shooting for her next film.

Your Genes Decides Your Moods After Drinking Alcohol

Scientists can now explain why some people get so happy and silly by drinking alcohol and why others get depressed and angry. It all comes down to our genetic make up.

The study is done by University of Chicago on 200 subjects aged 21-35 years and is published in Archives of General Psychiatry. It reveals that those who get high from alcohol often get addicted. None of the subjects knew the study was on alcohol consumption. They described their moods through a survey.

Alcohol on its own has stimulants that can make one excited or down. However, the study showed that light drinkers were more sensitive to the effects of drinking and they felt sedated while the heavy drinkers felt happy and positive cause of alcohol consumption.

Though the blood alcohol concentration curves for both types of subjects were similar but their effect of alcohol was drastically different. Their brains responded very differently to alcohol and so their moods were completely in contrast. So, whenever you next see somebody all tipsy keep in mind the role of genetics. And just in case if you don't get depressed or crazily high after drinking, remind yourself that the credit goes to your genes.

Britain’s fattest teenager

Georgia is Britain’s fattest teenager. She’s 17 year old & the more she thinks about her fatness, the more she eats. She also faces an early death, if she doesn’t take some step to loose weight. This must be really depressing for her. People stare at her badly when she goes out of the house, but she is used to it.

While she was in America, she used to play games & she even consulted behavioural coaches, food psychologists and fitness trainers and they encouraged to walk 10,000 steps every day & she lost weight at that time. But at home, she doesn’t have those facilities.

She said at the camp she had been in a controlled environment where she consumed 1,500 calories a day. However, at home she felt isolated as neither her family nor her friends were sticking to a healthy eating plan.

'This is my problem and I know I have to solve it again,' she said

'But I'm only human and I'd be lying if I said I didn't need support.'

Of course she needs moral support & I just hope she loose weight again.

See I don’t have anything against fat people as such & I think it’s really rude on the part of people to target fat, thin, short, dark people. Someone extremely fat had been mean to me a year ago & I said a couple of nasty things regarding fat people. I think it’s the evil nature of the person that makes us say nasty thing about him/her. On top of it, I’ve also noticed fat people calling others fat. I think they are in a position to understand how a person might feel but everyone makes fun of fat people.

I have never been this fat but I did put on some weight during my teenage years & it was a nightmare how everyone used to give me headaches. I wasn’t even fat, but no one spared me the torture. Family & friends…everyone begged me to loose weight & made fun of me on every occasion. Most of the people who made fun of me at that time have become very fat now :P I lost that weight in 8 years, but even today when I meet people, they tell me that I’m too skinny (which I am not) & they can’t stand it. And some of my school pals who met me later on just couldn’t stand it either. They were happy when I was healthy & have turned green when I was not that healthy anymore. And my 1st love also said to me that I wasn’t smart enough for him. I haven’t forgotten anything & I wasn’t even fat, to begin with. I believe these fat people must go through hell. And when you’re young, it’s all the more tough on you.
