Some women still miss old-fashioned male chivalry even today

One such woman is actress Michelle Dockery who is playing Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey. She believes modern men have lost some of the most appealing aspects of their personalities & I totally agree with her. We may have progressed outwardly but we have lost a lot on the way. It’s true ‘chivalry’ & ‘good manners’ are two traits, which are totally missing. In fact the noble qualities such as courage & honor too are somehow disappearing. No one wants to help out the weak. It goes for both men & women. And forget about protecting women & the weak in this age. You’d be mad to yearn for that kind of man or a woman who could behave as a woman. This age is all about equality, but during this struggle, noble qualities in a person has vanished. Even when we talk about equality, we miss out gays, bisexuals, blacks, Asians, Muslims, animals, atheists, etc. Some people are just more equal & the story ends there.

When asked how Michelle Dockery thought the role of women had changed since the days of Downton, set during the First World War, she told the Radio Times:

“We take so many of our freedoms for granted nowadays. I can travel where I like, I can have a baby when I like, I can do any job I want – but I do think chivalry has been lost a little bit.”

“Those old manners – such as men standing when women arrive at the dinner table or opening doors for you – are lovely, and it’s lovely when you see a man doing that today. But young men wouldn’t think about that for a second because it’s not the culture anymore.”

I don’t think it’s little bit. I would say it’s completely missing. No one has time to help out the weak or even think about protecting women. Some people also do not know what is freedom even today. Now that is disparity. I don’t even think they can even understand as to what we are blabbing about. So far as the protection of women is concerned, in many cases, immediate family members also don’t have time to protect their own daughters & sisters, to begin with. They want you to earn as it is something in fashion or whatever. Since everyone works, you must also work. That’s the logic. I personally know females who work & they don’t want to work owing to a variety of reason, but they have to support families & they are being pressurized to work like mad. No one respects them as such. So I don’t know what kind of equality we are running after. If a woman is harassed or sexually abused at the work place, people start pointing out towards her character…That in a way she must have provoked the man. Which is why I’m sorry I don’t get when people talk about equality & that a woman becomes a strong individual when she works. Even though at home her brother or husband is there to beat the shit out of her. That’s how strong some women are.

It’s true now men don’t open doors or stand when a woman arrives. I think we are all quite used to it. And yes I agree it’s not the culture anymore. But it would be really nice to meet a gentleman.

I think the only gentleman I ever knew was a friend of my mom Professor Rafat Karam. He was also my teacher at the uni. I don’t know any other gentleman & it’s saddening that even he is dead.

Today men don’t even think twice before insulting a woman. Jeering at a woman along with crappy people, (which is but mental torture & emotional abuse )is the easiest thing. They don’t even mind slapping her, if they could in some cases. It’s just that they don’t get a chance & those who do make sure they beat the shit out of a woman. Anyhow, they manage to emotionally abuse a woman as much as they can. When you want to do a wrong deed, you would have thousands of supporters.

Respect is essential for a woman but sorry no one has time to respect her anymore. It’s even more difficult to respect a woman who has certain values & principles. Anyhow, I think that chivalry is almost dying, cause women also don’t behave as women anymore. Lady-like thing too has disappeared. Naturally men have no time for chivalry either. It’s just bad for those who are still old-fashioned & believe in certain principles which mean nothing to both men & women. In fact people just laugh at us for believing in the impossible in this age. Unfortunately people have become selfish & insensitive. The only thing that matters now is money. Naturally when everything ends in materialism, you can’t expect much. I suppose a time will come when we will also stop lamenting.

One would definitely respect a man who'd be sensitive enough to think about others. I don't think your ego is damaged when you go out of your way & does something for another being. It makes one a better individual. And anyone who takes that person for granted is a fool but nevertheless things have deteriorated & altered badly. You can't just blame men for it. I believe both men & women are responsible for this mess.

It's difficult for me to get the example of Adam & Even out of my mind. It's the most beautiful example. Woman was created as a companion for man...she wasn't meant to be his slave. But God knows what went wrong.

Disgusting & Sickening

Lately nothing actually clicks & I just don’t feel like writing just for the heck of it. Anyhow, yesterday my sister had this status. The fact is…it’s still bothering me so I’m gonna just scribble few lines. Here it goes:

“We live in a society that teaches women to be careful not to be raped instead of teaching men NOT TO RAPE!”

It’s very true. We just fix the blame on women for getting raped or sexually harassed. I’ve met people who think only characterless women get raped. This is bullshit. I couldn’t help thinking about one particular incident that happened last year I suppose. A prostitute was raped & people were being so insensitive about it. She sells her body. That’s her work. You don’t have the right to rape her. Moreover, I’ve also heard crap about provocative dressing. Even if a woman is walking half naked, I don’t think she’s asking a man to rape her.

Speaking of which reminds me of what my teacher said while I was in 1st year & that was 1992. I know that’s so long ago but I still feel young :P Anyhow, she was quite pissed off as she saw this student walking in the rain & she was wearing black bra. And she said that if a man would do anything to her, you all would blame him but it’s the fault of the girl. I totally disagree with her. At that time, of course I did ponder over it but I didn’t actually need to.

Although I don’t wear revealing clothes but I’m not from a conservative family. I could easily smoke in front of my parents. I don’t. It’s another thing. I could do a lot of things that I don’t. Anyhow, that’s how I am & I don’t expect everyone to be like me.

But I’ve noticed that people wonder when someone performs a good deed. They are shocked out of their wits. You help someone cross the road. They’ll be shocked. You give your seat in a bus to an elder person, they’ll be shocked. You look after a sick stray, they go off their heads.

We also appreciate strange kind of things. We appreciate desperate sluts for having low IQ level I suppose & bad humans for coming up with creative ideas every time they stoop down too low. We have low level of tolerance. Some people think it’s their birth right to hurt you & take you for granted.

I have been trying very hard to understand people that I don’t have to. Yes I can’t believe it myself that I, of all people, have used such words as ‘desperate sluts.’ I don’t know how else to describe a thing when it’s begging me to call it so. And I do find it amusing that a woman is dying to take off her clothes every time, every day at every given opportunity. But why does she do that? When you like someone, it’s kind of difficult to understand low-life fuckers surrounding the guy. And I think when you want to do something for me, it ought to be just for me, not for sluts to spoil it.

Recently a friend of mine had this crush on a married guy & the guy is the one who started off everything, but then you know how they back off. Suddenly he realized he was married & the girl was getting serious. (Usually guys are the ones who start off everything. They take interest; they give hints & when you make things easy for them, then they start appreciating sluts around them.) Anyhow, he said: ‘Gone are the days when girls were content with just flowers. Now things have changed.’

I don’t want to scribble everything that I heard & I still believe there are girls who are content with just one flower & few nice words. But these men have issues when somebody’s values are still intact & that person doesn’t want to sleep with you. I also know women who have been used & discarded so easily. What exactly do guys want? When a girl sleeps with them, they throw her away. When a girl talks about her beliefs & values, & they know they can’t have fun, they get rid of that girl.

Why were we taught ‘respect is essential for a woman’? Nobody respects a spotless character these days. Nobody respects a woman who doesn’t want to screw every guy she meets. We were also taught ‘honesty is the best policy.’ Honesty makes you vulnerable. No one appreciates it.

Had I been fake & materialistic, things might have been different. Anyhow, I don’t have regrets for who I am & my choices. I have seen the comedy of property fights. It was amusing, cause it’s a luxury that everyone doesn’t know. I often have argument with my mom for teaching me stuff such as honesty is the best policy & raise your voice against badness. On a couple of occasions, she has asked me not to be that honest & not to speak up against evil deeds. Btw, I wasn't even materialistic & fake when my hot shot dad was alive.

Some people are rotten & desperate by default. Is that blessing or bane? But as I look at it, such people are well appreciated. Naturally the question arises: Would I ever opt for that path? No.

Sorry guys this write-up is actually a mixture. I just got carried away.

Why Burn And Tear The Holy Books?

I don't know why are there so many distortions and differences? Why can we not live in peace in a humane manner? Why are we called humans when there is hardly any humanity left in us? It is sad how we no longer have any respect for each other and not even for our religions, values and cultures. Our hearts are filled with hatred though no religion preaches that.

Yesterday, a Muslim boy - Akhtar Hussain retaliated to the burning of Holy Quran in Florida by tearing the Bible in Lahore. He tore the Holy Bible into pieces outside Saint Joseph's Church on Lawrence Road. He even tried to burn it but was caught red-handed. The Christians were busy in their religious sermons on Friday when the sad incident took place.

Akhtar was caught by police and was stopped from entering the church by the officials posted there. He then started tearing the Christian holy book in anger. It is being reported that an FIR under section 295 A of the Pakistan Penal Code was charged against him and he was arrested. If convicted he could be jailed for 10 years.

I don't want to go into further details of what happened next and what will happen to the boy but the point remains that are we not becoming blind? We are losing our senses. Was Jesus Christ not a loved Prophet of God? Did he not suffer so much yet refused to say a single unkind word? All the records speak of his kindness and perseverance. Do we don't know that our Prophet Mohammad (p.b.u.h) was such a wise, sensible person who too faced all atrocities bravely because he knew God would always be there to protect him? His belief was his strength. Are we going to forget how a rich man named Gautama Buddha left all the riches and comforts of life to seek inner peace and gave us the real meaning of ENLIGHTENMENT?

Have we forgotten all that these great chosen ones left for us to cherish? We are just making our own rules and routes that are filled with prejudice, hatred and revenge.

If somebody ends up doing something wrong why do we have to react in a similar manner? If one person cannot see things with respect why should we hate and judge everybody else who practices the same faith?

This hatred can only be wiped through respect. We need no degree or education to understand how to respect and accept others. The heart can love as much as it can hate...can we not focus on love instead.
