Kaptaan - A Movie On Imran Khan

I am happy to see some good movies being made recently, which gives people like me the hope that everything around us is not dead.

Kaptaan is a film that is made on the life of Pakistan's infamous cricketer turned politician - Imran Khan. An independent filmmaker based in UK, Faisal Aman Khan took this task of making a movie on a real inspirational hero of our time. And obviously if we look closely at Pakistan's history, we can clearly see that there are very few people who are genuinely remembered and respected for the work they have done.

Imran Khan, however, has earned his name over the years on many grounds. Firstly, being an outclass cricketer who also became the best captain for our cricket team ever helping us win our first and only Cricket World Cup Trophy. After his retirement from cricket, he has continuously worked as a social worker and built cancer hospitals in the country. Struggling for years in the world of politics, he is now considered an icon and a beacon of light in our politically messed up nation that desperately needs honest leadership.

Kaptaan, however, focuses mainly on Imran Khan's life after he left cricket. It shows his struggles while bringing in change in a fixated society as he entered politics and also touches upon his personal life (his marriage and divorce with Jemima Goldsmith) etc.

Though the movie is still in the post production phase, this trailer is pretty decent and leaves a positive image on one's mind. The main lead in the cast is a local Pakistani model, Abdul Mannan, who does resemble Imran Khan in many ways. While, Saeeda Imtiaz who is a Pakistani-American model based in New York played the role of Jemima.

I feel Mannan has given some very genuine expressions in the trailer and does resemble Imran Khan on various occasions. I hope he acts equally well throughout the film. Of course, nobody can be as good looking as the original cricketer but Mannan has done justice to the role. I did google on Mannan and he does look quite handsome as a model himself.

So, hopefully Kaptaan will live up to its expectations and won't disappoint us viewers who are desperate to see awesome work produced within our own country.
