Anne-Marie Ellement – another victim of bullying

I read the story of Corporal Anne-Marie Ellement two or three days ago & it’s very saddening this woman committed suicide. She accused two colleagues of raping her but military prosecutors did not charge them. Anyhow, she was bullied by other soldiers after making that complaint. She said she was accused of setting up the Royal Military Police pair.

I don’t think any woman would ever create this kind of myth about herself. I strongly believe in it. I mean why would anyone invent this kind of story in the first place? In fact she was the alleged victim of a drunken sex attack by two serving soldiers in her unit when they were posted together to Germany but no one believed her. Instead they created trouble for her.

The Ministry of Defence says it will investigate claims of bullying. And the role social networking sites may have played in her death will also now be examined. We just hope the culprits get punished now.

Bullying has become a serious crime. People are capable of taking it to the extreme not just in real life but also in the virtual world. Many people have committed suicide after being bullied for months. And it’s not suicide, it’s murder when you bully someone to the extent that he kills himself. These bullying campaigns on the net have been quite successfully in killing people but the culprits are rarely ever punished.

In an email to a friend Anne-Marie Ellement wrote:

"Hardly anyone is talking to me. Like I'd make up something that is this bad, destroying my career, and losing all my friends."

In one email obtained by The Times, Anne-Marie told a friend:

“I was raped by two guys I work with, when I was drunk. They admitted to stuff I couldn't even remember, I came back out of my face with nothing on but my cardigan, no jeans nothing, as I had run away.”

Whenever anyone takes his life, it proves that the person has been through too much & it wasn’t possible for the person to go on.

I feel really sorry for Anne. She was wronged. As usual nothing was done about it when she made official complaint. In fact her rape complaint had been dismissed by the Special Investigations Branch. But her workmates started bullying her as if she enjoyed making up that kind of story. She was branded a liar & accused of making up the allegation by almost everyone. And she said she was belittled and slated by colleagues for her work, with one even writing criticisms on the social networking site Facebook. She was even called on duty on weekends when she was off & even on days when she was on sick leave. This is disgusting. Naturally the torment was too much so she ended her life.

It’s obvious she couldn’t have any peace of mind. She was found hanged in October. This speaks highly about the society in which we live. There is just no moral support for the victim. In fact, in this case, the victim was mental tortured. Everyone labels a victim as a slut or a bitch. What kind of justice is this where the culprits go on bullying the victim?
