Pooja Bhatt had filed a case against UTV and co-producer Hari Om Productions over using the title 'Thank You' for the latest romantic comedy. She claimed that she had registered the title with the Association of Motion Picture and TV Programming Producers (AMPTPP).
However, the Mumbai High Court ruled on April 6th in favor of UTV and said that there is no copyright on a mere title.
Although, UTV won the case but they clarified that the issue was simply a result of miscommunication between Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPAA) and Film Makers Combine (FMC). UTV had registered the name with IMPAA in 2008 but Pooja still filed a case in the high court.
The CEO of UTV Motion Pictures, Siddharth Roy Kapoor said that we registered the title of 'Thank You' through a proper channel and it legitimately belonged to them. However, the industry should focus on having a single window for title clearances to avoid such incidents in the future.
With the case being setttled, the cast, director and producers are now focused at the marketing events and box office because the movie is to be released on this weekend.
