Insecure tween asked on Youtube ‘Am I pretty/ Am I ugly?’

First of all, she doesn’t seem to be a tween, cause they are much younger & she definitely looks a lot older. She doesn’t even seem a teenager. Whoever thinks she’s somewhere between 10 & 12 is indeed a big fool. But nevertheless people responded to this clip like anything. You know they have all the time in the world & when they come across anyone a little insecure, they love to jeer at that person. I’d say a person requires a lot of guts to post this kind of clip on Youtube.

Anyhow, this 21 year old is an arts student & this Youtube video was actually a part of her thesis that explores the 'awkward transition from young girl to womanhood,' which means she has fooled many who thought she was seriously concerned about her looks. In fact she was so damn convincing that news outlets including ABC's GMA, NBC's Today show and Jezebel couldn’t help believing that she was a worryingly confused youngster.

Sophia Roessler, a Kansas City Art Institute senior has also posted a confessional comment to her YouTube clip: “I am a 21 year old artist, and I made this video four months ago as a piece about the struggles a girl transitioning into womanhood must go through. It is a difficult and confusing experience, and my video aims to express some of the feelings associated with this uncertain period of life. The video acted as a social experiment as well as commentary on this disturbing trend. No one in middle school thinks they are pretty. Even the girls that you think are perfect are also insecure.”

See teenagers & tweens do face a lot of problems but this seems to be a stupid thesis. Can this problem be solved by posting such clips? I really don’t think so, cause people will leave nasty comments & that would aggravate the problem further. Very few people would sympathize with some tween or teenager who faces this kind of complex. And I totally disagree with the statement: “No one in middle school thinks they are pretty.” She hasn’t met everyone in the world. That’s all I can say.

Contraception Row

Now this is an amazing story. A 13 year old had a contraceptive implant without her mom’s consent; in fact the mother was not even aware of it. The implant was fitted at school. Basically the girl wanted this procedure done as she felt like having sex but she didn’t want to get into any trouble. The good thing is that this implant will stay in place for a couple of years & a person can have sex without worrying about getting pregnant. But the parents are complaining now & rightly so, as they were kept in the dark. Performing any kind of surgery without the consent of parents is not morally right. However, the mother is proud of her daughter for being responsible enough to protect herself.

The teenager is not the only one. There are 33 more schoolgirls who have been fitted with the device in Southampton, Hants, as part of a controversial government initiative to drive down teenage pregnancies.

The girl said: "The implant works really well and I think it is a good service.

"I think it has really helped me because if I am with my boyfriend and we feel like having sex, I have the peace of mind knowing that I am OK.

"At the time I didn't want to tell my mum because there are some things you don't want to talk to your parents about.

"But I am glad I have told her now. I'd rather tell her I've had an implant than tell her I was pregnant.

"If I was told I couldn't have the implant unless I told my mum, I probably would have gone away to think about it and would have eventually got my mum involved.

"But I think there should be the option to have full confidentiality because some children just can't speak to their parents.

"I do get where my mum is coming from and maybe it shouldn't be done in school."

Smart thinking! But kids are not kids anymore. However, the other day I read about a 17 year old smoking right before going into her labor & everyone was blaming her for being selfish. Even FB page was created to badmouth that particular teenager. I guess a 17 year old is kid herself. How can we expect them to act like responsible adults? But I’m a little surprised that there are places where kids are smart enough to protect themselves just at the age of13. However, instead of getting pregnant I guess it’s better to take precautions. Many students have used this sexual health service since 2009.

And yes the question is: what the hell is this contraceptive implant?

Nexplanon is the contraceptive implant. The device is a 4cm thin tube which is placed under the skin of the upper arm. Once inserted it steadily releases hormone progestogen into the bloodstream which stops monthly ovulation. It also helps prevent sperm passing through the womb and makes the lining of the womb thinner so it is unable to support a fertilized egg. The implant does not need to be replaced for three years and is considered more than 99 per cent reliable in preventing pregnancy.

We always talk about educating teenagers & now when they take some step, parents create hue & cry over it. This particular mother is also proud & at the same time, she’s complaining about stupid things such as follow-up appointments & she wants an apology for it.

I think it’s a good idea that a teenager is protected & she has access to advice on sex. You can fun without getting into trouble. Even 13 year old has feelings & what’s wrong with that?

I totally agree with Simon Blake, chief executive of sexual health advice service Brook.

"Young people may also need wider emotional and practical support in managing relationships, particularly where they are more vulnerable either because of their age or other personal circumstances."

Things are getting interesting every day. We really live in better times. And I'm not being sarcastic. I mean it but kids are not kids anymore...we were not like this even at the age of 21 :P

A 14 year old stabbed 9 times in the neck

A 14 year old teenager named Chloe West was brutally stabbed 9 times in the neck by an 18 year old boy just outside her school. She studied at Ridgewood High School, in Wollaston, Stourbridge. He didn’t study there but he knew the girl. Luckily, teachers, parents & students intervened & that’s why this crazy boy couldn’t kill her.

However, the injuries of Chloe are serious but she’s out of danger. They are saying that her condition is stable now, which is of course good news. She has sustained injuries to her face & upper body. Police has confirmed that Chloe knew her attacker. Moreover, the attacker himself has also suffered hand injuries.

Asked whether the victim had been in a relationship with the man who was arrested, Mr. Johnson (police spokesman) replied: "We've certainly received information this morning that the two people involved know each other. Whether that formed the basis of a relationship or not, certainly the indications are that they knew each other in the past.”

Praising quick thinking teachers, parents and staff, who sat on the attacker, Superintendent Stuart Johnson said: 'I would just like to pay tribute to the very brave individuals, who without too much thought for their own safety intervened at the time of the incident this morning. I'm referring to some members of the public who are maybe parents of children, to staff members and indeed some students who were confronted by a very frightening scene. They showed tremendous bravery in intervening and actually detaining the suspect, and in my opinion, based on medical evidence, they clearly prevented far more serious injuries to Chloe.'

The school was closed for the rest of the day. Few students thought the commotion had to do with April 1st & they didn’t take it seriously at first. Anyway, those who witness this scene said they saw a guy racing up the road at 60 mph, jumped out of his car & punched her repeatedly. No one knows why this boy went off his head. However, the matter is now in the hands of police.

This is a very terrible incident. When an acquaintance does this to you, the real story has to be complicated or the culprit is totally mad. What could possibly drive a person to commit crime in front of so many people? Of course I do feel sorry for the victim but I think these questions are important.

Teenage girl making amazing recovery

Rachel Attridge who is just 17 year old was diagnosed with a rare disease in which the body’s immune system attacks the nervous system by mistake. In scientific terms, you call it Guillain-Barre Syndrome. She ended up paralyzed from waist downwards & she had been on life support machine for a year, but now she has shown immense improvement. In fact, she’s recovering every day. She has also returned to college.

Rachel said: 'I'm glad it's all over. I've been told it may take three years for the nerve endings that were damaged to fully recover…I wouldn't want any other person to suffer the issues I had had to go through over the past year. But I'm getting better and better everyday, loving life again and looking forward to completing my studies and doing what I love most.'

First of all, this teenager went through a terrible experience but while she was showing signs, one of the doctors accused her as an attention seeker. When you are sick, this is the last thing you want to hear from a doctor. Since doctors are humans, they can’t help being insensitive. However, I think this is highly unprofessional behavior. I know it’s very difficult to diagnose a rare disease immediately. It takes time, but when a patient is telling you that she has trouble, she can’t be lying.

Earlier on, her symptoms were dismissed as that of flu by the doctors & she was asked to take some painkillers & rest for a while.

Astonishingly, despite her worsening condition, two more doctors dismissed her pleas for help - with one even suggesting it was down to her being pregnant .Another insensitive doctor suggested that she might simply have been attention seeking.

Rachel was completely paralyzed for four months, with a ventilator keeping her alive.

According to her mom, she was tube-fed through her nose and had to have everything done for her. If we had not got her to hospital when we did, she would have died in my arms at home. It has been sheer hell, to be perfectly honest.

Anyway, I’m glad that Rachel’s nightmare is over & she’s so positive about life. That’s the spirit.

And here’s little info on Guillain-Barre syndrome:

Guillain-Barre syndrome is an autoimmune disorder (the body's immune system attacks itself). Exactly what triggers Guillain-Barre syndrome is unknown. The syndrome may occur at any age, but is most common in people of both sexes between ages 30 and 50.

Guillain-Barre syndrome damages parts of nerves. This nerve damage causes tingling, muscle weakness, and paralysis.

Some people may get Guillain-Barre syndrome after a bacterial infection. A similar syndrome may occur after surgery, or when someone is critically ill (neuropathy of critical illness).

Sexting - A New Social Issue

Sexting is the new social problem facing the world. With modern technology, the social issues change as well and sexting seems to be a similar phenomenon.

Sexting is sending of sexually explicit photographs via text messages. Teenagers, both girls and boys are falling for it immensely. It is leading to premature sexualisation of kids and can lead to sexually transmitted diseases. Thus, another social problem is on rise.

A latest development is that the kids are circulating nude pictures of themselves or their friends to others. School staff in Britain and other countries are worried that their students are going to get into trouble and it is time some action is taken regarding sexting.

According to a research in Britain, 4 out of every 10 kids aged 11 to 16 know that sexting takes place in their schools. Half of these children take part in sexting themselves although they know that their pictures will be circulated around. A research conducted in Plymouth University showed that 40% of teenagers don't consider topless pictures of young girls to be inappropriate either.

Adults feel it is the overall exposure to pornography on the internet that is leading to such behavioral change amongst the kids. Academicians also suggest a law should be made against sexting and teenagers should be tried in the court of law if they possesses explicit images of minors just like an adult is treated.

Well, till a few days back I thought only Britney Spears was involved in sexting but see how technology is leading to other social issues. I really don't know how a check is done on these things and modern technologies. But even when things like video chat and skype were introduced people all over the world irrespective of age, gender and religious beliefs got involved in cyber sex and much more. Indeed, it is not nice that kids are getting involved in these things that they cannot really handle well. It is not just sex and the diseases that will be caused but it will also lead to disturbing many kids mentally for the longest time and by the time they will realize what they did when they were 14 was wrong, they would have spend half of their lives.

Britain’s fattest teenager

Georgia is Britain’s fattest teenager. She’s 17 year old & the more she thinks about her fatness, the more she eats. She also faces an early death, if she doesn’t take some step to loose weight. This must be really depressing for her. People stare at her badly when she goes out of the house, but she is used to it.

While she was in America, she used to play games & she even consulted behavioural coaches, food psychologists and fitness trainers and they encouraged to walk 10,000 steps every day & she lost weight at that time. But at home, she doesn’t have those facilities.

She said at the camp she had been in a controlled environment where she consumed 1,500 calories a day. However, at home she felt isolated as neither her family nor her friends were sticking to a healthy eating plan.

'This is my problem and I know I have to solve it again,' she said

'But I'm only human and I'd be lying if I said I didn't need support.'

Of course she needs moral support & I just hope she loose weight again.

See I don’t have anything against fat people as such & I think it’s really rude on the part of people to target fat, thin, short, dark people. Someone extremely fat had been mean to me a year ago & I said a couple of nasty things regarding fat people. I think it’s the evil nature of the person that makes us say nasty thing about him/her. On top of it, I’ve also noticed fat people calling others fat. I think they are in a position to understand how a person might feel but everyone makes fun of fat people.

I have never been this fat but I did put on some weight during my teenage years & it was a nightmare how everyone used to give me headaches. I wasn’t even fat, but no one spared me the torture. Family & friends…everyone begged me to loose weight & made fun of me on every occasion. Most of the people who made fun of me at that time have become very fat now :P I lost that weight in 8 years, but even today when I meet people, they tell me that I’m too skinny (which I am not) & they can’t stand it. And some of my school pals who met me later on just couldn’t stand it either. They were happy when I was healthy & have turned green when I was not that healthy anymore. And my 1st love also said to me that I wasn’t smart enough for him. I haven’t forgotten anything & I wasn’t even fat, to begin with. I believe these fat people must go through hell. And when you’re young, it’s all the more tough on you.
