The longest labour ever

We get to hear about such strange things on a daily basis. A Woman named Joanna Krzysztonek has to lie 'upside-down' for 75 DAYS to save lives of her two premature children. She was supposed to have triplets but one baby died earlier on. In order to make sure that her other two babies survive, she had to lie upside down for more than 10 weeks. She even risked contracting infections that might have caused her haemorrhage while lying at a 35 degree angle for more than 10 weeks but she went through all that. Anyway, her baby daughter has been named Iga and the son is called Ignacy. These were the names of saints.

Some mothers go to such extreme length to protect their babies. This is nothing but a miracle. Joanna is indeed a very brave woman. We wish this family much happiness & love!

I’ve met women who believe that having a baby is the most easiest thing even though they have never been pregnant themselves. I just couldn’t say to them: get pregnant, face the horror of delivering the baby & then make such statements. I wonder what would they do if doctors ask them to lie upside down for the baby. Even animals have problem while delivering babies & I really don’t know where do such women live. Men can say anything as they don’t get pregnant. But I don’t expect women to be so damn insensitive about other women.

This write-up is for all the moms out there who genuinely protect their kids & do care about them. I’m glad I could say this about my mother.

Pregnant women can be treated for cancer 'without harming baby'

There are thought to be hundreds of women each year diagnosed with cancer while they are pregnant who face an agonizing decision over the best course of action.

In some cases women opt for an abortion, particularly when they are in the early stages of pregnancy and if the cancer is very aggressive.

Others risk their own survival by refusing treatment until after the baby is born.

A collection of research studies published in a special edition of The Lancet medical journal has offered reassurance for women as it was found that chemotherapy treatment after the first trimester does not harm the unborn child.

Researchers in Belgium followed up 70 children whose mothers were treated with chemotherapy while they were in the womb.

They were found to have normal development, IQ, hearing, heart function and general health. Those who were born prematurely had lower IQ scores, which is thought to be connected to the early birth rather than the drugs as this is seen in babies not exposed to chemotherapy, the researchers said.

The findings suggest early delivery so the mother can begin chemotherapy may affect the baby's health, the researchers said.

Contraception Row

Now this is an amazing story. A 13 year old had a contraceptive implant without her mom’s consent; in fact the mother was not even aware of it. The implant was fitted at school. Basically the girl wanted this procedure done as she felt like having sex but she didn’t want to get into any trouble. The good thing is that this implant will stay in place for a couple of years & a person can have sex without worrying about getting pregnant. But the parents are complaining now & rightly so, as they were kept in the dark. Performing any kind of surgery without the consent of parents is not morally right. However, the mother is proud of her daughter for being responsible enough to protect herself.

The teenager is not the only one. There are 33 more schoolgirls who have been fitted with the device in Southampton, Hants, as part of a controversial government initiative to drive down teenage pregnancies.

The girl said: "The implant works really well and I think it is a good service.

"I think it has really helped me because if I am with my boyfriend and we feel like having sex, I have the peace of mind knowing that I am OK.

"At the time I didn't want to tell my mum because there are some things you don't want to talk to your parents about.

"But I am glad I have told her now. I'd rather tell her I've had an implant than tell her I was pregnant.

"If I was told I couldn't have the implant unless I told my mum, I probably would have gone away to think about it and would have eventually got my mum involved.

"But I think there should be the option to have full confidentiality because some children just can't speak to their parents.

"I do get where my mum is coming from and maybe it shouldn't be done in school."

Smart thinking! But kids are not kids anymore. However, the other day I read about a 17 year old smoking right before going into her labor & everyone was blaming her for being selfish. Even FB page was created to badmouth that particular teenager. I guess a 17 year old is kid herself. How can we expect them to act like responsible adults? But I’m a little surprised that there are places where kids are smart enough to protect themselves just at the age of13. However, instead of getting pregnant I guess it’s better to take precautions. Many students have used this sexual health service since 2009.

And yes the question is: what the hell is this contraceptive implant?

Nexplanon is the contraceptive implant. The device is a 4cm thin tube which is placed under the skin of the upper arm. Once inserted it steadily releases hormone progestogen into the bloodstream which stops monthly ovulation. It also helps prevent sperm passing through the womb and makes the lining of the womb thinner so it is unable to support a fertilized egg. The implant does not need to be replaced for three years and is considered more than 99 per cent reliable in preventing pregnancy.

We always talk about educating teenagers & now when they take some step, parents create hue & cry over it. This particular mother is also proud & at the same time, she’s complaining about stupid things such as follow-up appointments & she wants an apology for it.

I think it’s a good idea that a teenager is protected & she has access to advice on sex. You can fun without getting into trouble. Even 13 year old has feelings & what’s wrong with that?

I totally agree with Simon Blake, chief executive of sexual health advice service Brook.

"Young people may also need wider emotional and practical support in managing relationships, particularly where they are more vulnerable either because of their age or other personal circumstances."

Things are getting interesting every day. We really live in better times. And I'm not being sarcastic. I mean it but kids are not kids anymore...we were not like this even at the age of 21 :P

Aishwarya's "Heroine" Shelved Entirely

After the announcement of Aishwarya Rai's pregnancy the world is over joyed, however, Madhur Bhandarkar has been conducting meetings with Ash and Ronnie Screwvala regarding the filming of his film "Heroine".

Apparently, it is a movie on the life of Marilyn Monroe and Aishwarya was supposed to play the sexy role. However, with her getting pregnant, she could only give 65 days to shoot the film since her baby is due in November.

Thus, after lots of discussions Madhur has shelved the entire project because he needed at least six months to complete the movie. Also there were scenes where the heroine was to be seen under a waterfall, smoking cigarettes and look extremely hot. Keeping the demands of the role, Madhur knew Aishwarya won't deliver as per the need of the role and so for now "Heroine" has been shelved.

Madhur has already started working on two other projects without wasting any more time.

Couple Will Pay For A Baby They Will Never See - Surrogacy Issues

A British couple is very angry with the Child Support Agency and the law when they were forced to pay to a surrogate mother to raise a child they will never see.

The couple chose a single mother of two through a surrogacy website. The wife had six late stage miscarriages and were desperate to have a child. They agreed to pay the surrogate mother some 10,000 pounds but in the middle of her pregnancy she decided to keep the baby.

The judge backed her decision since she was the biological mother of the child even when she broke her promise. The couple knew the child would be emotionally distorted if she would be split into two homes so they agreed ultimately to allow the mother to keep the child and keep half of the money they had given her already for her service. However, the couple are angry that they have to pay some 600 pounds every month to raise the baby girl since the husband is the biological father anyway.

The couple are upset that though they have no right to see the child yet it is unfair to pay every month to raise this child. The baby was supposed to be the couple's yet she decided half way to keep the baby herself. They think that perhaps it is how this woman makes a living by fooling rich couples.

Well, this is quite sad for the couple. They wanted to have a baby but ended up bearing the responsibility of a child they will not even see. Unfair. Surrogacy agreements are not legally binding in British courts even with a formal contract so the risks of surrogacy can be huge in certain similar cases.

Grandma becomes the oldest surrogate mother

This has been an amazing story. Pamela Butler’s daughter Nichola was not medically able to give birth, which is why her mom became the oldest surrogate mother in Britain. She is 57 year old.

Pamela gave birth to a healthy 5lb 12oz Josef by Caesarean section in August. And Josef is a very cute boy.

Although Mrs Butler was worried about her age but she wanted to help out her daughter.

‘It was the greatest gift I could have given her. It’s wonderful to watch her being a mum now. The doctors were wonderful and very reassuring. Luckily it was an easy pregnancy and it was the most wonderful moment when Nichola held her son for the first time. It didn’t feel like he was my baby but it was just that I was carrying him for Nichola. I babysit for him sometimes and he’s just a wonderful little lad.’

The risk for pregnancy increases with age. If you’re 35 or above, then you must decide carefully to become a surrogate mother. Anyway, this must have been a miracle for Nichola & her husband. The couple went through 4 fertility treatment, cause 3 times it just failed.

Nichola knew that she would not be able to become pregnant as her womb didn’t develop properly. At 1st she & her husband thought of adoption but then they decided on surrogacy.

Earlier this month, a court issued a parental order legally recognizing Mr and Mrs Pagett as Josef’s parents, as in England and Wales, at the moment of the child’s birth, the surrogate mother is also the legal mother.

I think this story is a ray of hope for all those people who don’t have kids. The desire to have kids is very natural. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of kids or not. Having your own child is a different thing. I think Nichola is one lucky woman & her mom made her dream come true. What more could you ask for!
