Golshifteh Farahani, an Iranian actress who worked with Leonardo DiCaprio & Russell Crowe in Body of Lies has been banished from her home country as her nude photo was published in Madame Le Figaro.
Although many people have criticized her but at the same time, there are many who have praised her for 'the courage to remove a taboo among the women in Muslim countries'. Several FB pages have been created in her support.
The Iranian government has asked her not to return to Iran ever as she’s not welcome over there anymore. They are not just mad at the offending photo but the actress made it clear that that her decision to pose is in protest against restrictive Islamic codes & so the Iranian government has taken this step against her.
Well I don’t find this black-and-white 'art shot' worthy of so much attention but the fact is that she’s a Muslim & it might be a big deal for many that she has posed against a black backdrop with her hands strategically placed over her breasts. Even though there is nothing sexy about the photo. She’s naked & that’s about it. If you’re doing a thing, at least do that properly. She looks drunk or maybe she was supposed to give that kind of expression. It’s a zombie like expression & it seemed the zombie couldn’t shit for days as she has to do this photo shoot. I don’t see anything arty in it. Whether she wears clothes or she takes them off, she’s quite ordinary looking.
I have nothing against women posing naked anywhere but what kind of protest is this? You take off your clothes to speak against restrictive Islamic codes. That’s kind of funny. There are better ways to protest. What I find weird is that people confuse nudity with progress. Muslims are not backward & they don’t live in caves as the world wants to think. They are educated Muslims out there & they do have open minds. However, they only notice a Muslim woman when she sheds her clothes & it’s regarded as a sign of progress. It’s more or less publicity stunt. An actor has the potential to act & prove himself/herself to the world. Unnecessarily taking off your clothes just doesn’t make any sense (it doesn’t matter if you give it a name of so-called protest). And I'm so sorry to say but I don't get what does posing naked has to do with any religion whatsoever. Fine. Farahani has the right to pose naked but she doesn't speak for every woman or Islam, for that matter.
