Undateable has sparked a fury

Channel 4 is about to launch a new series which brands disabled people as undateable & as usual people have been angry. It has not even been aired as yet. But you know some people have all the time in the world to find faults with the name.

Anyhow, we know such things always spark a backlash. And right now people are appalled by the name of the programme that has yet to be aired on Channel 4. How come people are not appalled when disabled people are discriminated on a daily basis? How many people think about dating someone who is disabled or even has some serious illness? Forget about marrying that person, no one wants to date anyone who has got disabilities or who is schizophrenic or mentally ill. This is a fact & denying the facts cannot alter the facts.

This is how people reacted on twitter when they heard about the name.

‘What has the world come to?'

‘First Playing it Straight, now The Undateables when is Channel 4 going to realize how offensive their shows are getting?'

'What a horrible name for a show. Makes me cringe.'

People have the right to react, but I don’t understand why is it so shocking a revelation for some folks?

However, a spokesperson for Channel 4 claims the title is actually a reflection of what society thinks. I kind of agree with him.

“The title is a reflection of society’s own perceptions and intended to challenge stereotypes and encourage debate. The Undateables is an uplifting and moving three-part series which is about the universal quest for love and people will judge for themselves when they see it.”

The name may not be that acceptable to people but ask any disabled person, & you would realize that this is how they feel. This is how people make them feel. Even able-bodied people are treated unfairly in this world. Everyone wants to have a companion but everyone doesn’t even get that chance. Everyone has the right to dream about good things. It’s another thing you may not touch it.

Watch the clip & ask yourself the question: would you date anyone of them? Your answer will tell you the truth about how these people are perceived by the society of able-bodied people. Sometimes raising a question is not that difficult, but giving the answer is. People even want to stay miles away from those who are from dysfunctional families. People don’t want to have relationship with any ill person. It doesn’t matter whether he/she able-bodied or not. Get your facts straight & you would know it isn't a very beautiful place. People are being treated as dirt on a daily basis.
