Henrik Ibsen said this in 1912 but things haven’t changed much for women. They are judged & they are judged badly. So far as laws are concerned, we have some really inhuman laws on the statute book. I don’t know why they haven’t been blotted out. These laws have been abused over the years by people but nothing has been done. Both men & women have suffered. Salman Taseer only visited that Christian woman but he was killed as people couldn’t stand his comment on the infamous blasphemy law. Hudood laws have insulted & humiliated women in every way. What I’ve seen is that inhuman laws are implemented with full zest. Evil folks take undue advantage of these laws. They lie & send people to jail.
Moreover, the Pakistani government introduced new laws last year criminalizing acid attacks and stating that convicted attacks would serve at least 14 years in jail.
I don’t think 14 years is enough. Lives of rape victims & acid victims are destroyed forever. I don’t think time can heal this kind of terrorist attack. These culprits ought to hanged. Moreover, they ought to put a ban on the sale of concentrated acid. People shouldn’t have access to acid in any way. But sorry no one bothers to think about it. You want to clean the bathroom. We have better options; we don’t need acid anymore.
I’d say both men & women can be devilish. Women judge other women very badly. Please do not think about Samantha Brick. She’s one vain, deluded woman who has no time to look around herself & see that people are suffering on a daily basis. She’d go on writing articles on her so-called beauty. Even today she has written another vain article. Someone needs to send her the pics of acid victims who can’t even see themselves in the mirror anymore.
Anyhow, we have concepts of fallen women & they are shunned from the society. We do not have fallen men. We don’t know what is that. I have met men who think only a woman of loose character is raped & crimes such as rape, harassment, molestation are carried out just by the lower class & educated people do not indulge in such acts. This is laughable. You want to live in a state of denial. Go ahead but you can’t confuse others.
And it’s not just laws but also norms & rules that we follow religiously which are equally suffocating. These norms & rules are formulated to tell the world about so-called honor. I don’t know who are they deceiving & what do they get by putting up an image that is false.
I have posted this crap a zillion times: “Larki ghar ki izzat hai par larki ki koi izzat nahin hai.” I’m not from a conservative family but even I feel suffocated. I seriously wonder how do girls from conservative families manage to breathe in this suffocating atmosphere.
Every step you take, you are judged. And then everyone wants everyone to get married. That’s the only thing Pakistanis ever think about. And if a female is not married, they just can’t help reminding her of her single status all the time. Single people also have advantages but no one ever bothers to highlight those points. I don’t think married people are in the position to know what kind of life a single person is leading. It’s easier to presume that it ought to be sad but a point comes when you move on.
And yes here I would again mention that rotten example of my 7th grade math teacher who just can’t help finding faults with single women on a daily basis. She not just scribbled status but also shared links in which she bitches about single women. According to her, a single woman must have lots & lots of faults, & that is the reason a man never bothered to marry her. She herself has a daughter but there is no such thing as fear of God.
You’ve got to be totally fucked up to imagine that it’s a woman’s fault if a man didn’t notice her. I’d say it’s his loss. All the single women I know…they all seem good humans to me. I haven’t seen them bitching, hurting & creating hurdles for others…at least not deliberately. And I’m sure God knows why they are single & why they are being tested. All those people who judge single folks I believe have some sort of complex. Maybe they often wonder how could anyone live without sex, cause they surely would have committed suicide if a man hadn’t touch them. This is exactly how I think about closed minded people such as my 7th grade teacher.

But I’m sure it’s much above closed minds. They can only judge others, because they are not looking at themselves.
