British couple arrested in U.S. over twitter jokes

Leigh Van Bryan & his friend Emily Banting were not allowed to enter America as they cracked some jokes on twitter. Since America takes everything seriously (including tweets), they were treated as terrorists.

Now this is what got Leigh into trouble:

“I am going to destroy America & dig up Marilyn Monroe.”

Leigh even tried to explain to the security officials that 'destroy' is slang for party in the UK, but naturally he couldn’t convince anyone.

And the weird thing is that Emily was not even party to anything, yet she paid the price. Anyhow, this is the 1st threatening tweet which made Leigh a potential threat:

'Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?'

The other threatening tweet:

'3 weeks today, we're totally in LA p****** people off on Hollywood Blvd and diggin' Marilyn Monroe up!'

This is the most funniest part - Federal agents also searched their suitcases looking for spades and shovels, claiming that Emily was planning to act as Leigh's 'look out' while he raided Marilyn's tomb.

Leigh said: 'It's just so ridiculous it's almost funny but at the time it was really scary. The Homeland Security agents were treating me like some kind of terrorist.’

The bottom line is…you must never crack stupid jokes on twitter or FB. See how Leigh & Emily were treated. All of it sounds funny but I’m sure it must be quite embarrassing for both of them.

There are certain words that can get into deep shit. It’s better that you don’t use them on websites. Having a sense of humor also can get you into trouble, so if you want to travel, make sure you don’t act smart.

Someone left a very nice comment: “Americans are even scared by the sound of their own farts!!!”

I hope you get the picture now.
