This happened in 1896 & you can imagine it must have been such a big deal.
When I checked out Wikipedia for details, this is what I read:
One contemporary critic wrote: "The spectacle of the prolonged pasturing on each other's lips was beastly enough in life size on the stage but magnified to gargantuan proportions and repeated three times over it is absolutely disgusting."
The Edison catalogue advertised it thus: "They get ready to kiss, begin to kiss, and kiss and kiss and kiss in a way that brings down the house every time."
Well when you’re gonna check out the video (if you haven’t seen it as yet), you will know it’s not all that grotesque but yeah it’s also not that fascinating. We definitely live in better times :P I of course did not enjoy watching them. I like Sean Penn; he’s such a good kisser but nevertheless in those days, even this was too much. However, we still have such critics & people who have issues with almost everything. Just come to think of it, even kissing for the 1st time in 1896 was a bit too late.
Anyhow, many will find it pretty cool.
