Family cat Moppet killed by 27 hunting dogs

Moppet was an 18 year old deaf cat & she was killed on her own land by 27 hunting dogs. And 2 days later, her dead body was returned in an empty bag of Pedigree dog food. They didn’t even have the decency to return the dead body in a more humane way. This incident happened a week ago.

The couple Les Atkinson, 75 & Margaret Atkinson, 59 live in a place where hunting dogs can legally cross their land. The couple even heard the commotion & were worried about their cat who went out for stretching. Anyway, the members of the hunt admitted that the dogs had killed the cat by accident. According to them, the dogs attacked Moppet as she panicked & tried to run off. And they were on a legal trail hunt. I believe any animal would be panicked & try to run away when a pack of dogs come after him. And the fact that they were on a legal trail hunt in which animal-based scent is laid down for the dogs to follow doesn’t make the brutal death of Moppet an easy thing for the owners.

However, this matter was reported to the police but after a brief investigation, officers decided not to take any further action.

It’s really a terrible incident. You raise your pets with so much love. You never want the last moments of your pet to be so dreadful.

Mrs. Atkinson, a retired teacher, said: ‘It was horrific. She didn’t stand a chance. She was an old lady and it was not the way for an innocent animal to meet her end. I can’t bear the thought that in her last few moments she was in terror. She didn’t deserve to die like that. Moppet was a big part of the family. We bought her the year my daughter went to secondary school. She’s a 30-year-old teacher now and is married. She was devastated when we told her.’

Mr. Atkinson, a retired coach builder and grandfather, said: ‘We’ve spent a lot of time crying. She would curl up on our knees every night and would wake us up in the morning. I’m retired, so I would spend hours talking to her.’

This is not the 1st incident of this kind. Last week I read that a fox was killed by hunting dogs right in the backyard of someone who himself is into hunting but he was utterly devastated when he saw the scene.

But hunting is such a fun hobby that all of this will continue. I feel so sorry for the couple. They have lost a pet & no action has been taken against it. And what else can we expect of hunting dogs? They may say the hounds are not barbaric & well-behaved but I don’t think it would sound right to those who have lost their pet. You don’t want this to happen to your cat or dog. Even the thought is sickening. I just hope no one has to go through this torment. I’m sure many will take side with the hunters & their pack of hounds. And as usual, it’s not the fault of dogs, it’s how they have been trained. You just can’t expect anything of hunting dogs.
