14 year old knocked down & killed outside her home

This is indeed a very heart wrenching story of two parents. Even though twenty months have passed but the pain of losing a child has not eased in any way.

Lillian Groves was just 14 year old when she had an accident outside her home in New Addington, Surrey by a speeding motorist. John Page who hit her had been smoking cannabis but he was never charged with drug offense. In fact he was only sentenced to eight months in prison & that too on just reckless driving. Moreover, he was released just after eight weeks, which seems nothing but mockery of justice.

Actually the UK’s drug-driving laws are so that it’s difficult to prosecute successfully. However, Natasha & Gary vowed to change the legal system that has allowed the culprit to escape. Their campaign for Lillian’s Law quickly gathered support with innumerable people signing the petition.

Lillian’s Law wants drug analyzers introduced for roadside testing, driving while under the influence of illegal drugs to be made a criminal offense, random spot checks and tougher sentencing. Moreover, the petition says: cannabis IS a lethal dangerous drug at the best of times. Smoking and hurting yourself is bad enough, but when it takes the life of another, IT CAN NOT BE IGNORED.

The death of a child is the worst nightmare of any parent. And the account of how Natasha & Gary lost their daughter will break your heart. They were waiting for doctor to say something positive such as the next 48 hours are critical & she would make it. Instead the doctor said that CT scan had shown global brain damage & that she was kept alive with drugs.

“We couldn’t take it in. Gary kept saying: “Are you going to keep her on a ventilator?” It was the mother who eventually screamed: “She hasn’t made it, Gary, she hasn’t made it!”’

Lillian died on her mother’s birthday. ‘When we got home, I saw the card she’d bought me,’ says Natasha. ‘I couldn’t bear to open it at the time, but I did later. She’d written: “Dear Mum, have a great day.”’

I really don’t have words to express myself. I just hope not a single parent has to see this kind of day, because they never ever recover. It doesn’t matter how the child dies.
