Abnormalities in the brain may make some people more likely to become drug addicts, according to scientists at the University of Cambridge.
They found the same differences in the brains of addicts and their non-addicted brothers and sisters.
The study, published in the journal Science, suggested addiction is in part a "disorder of the brain".
Other experts said the non-addicted siblings offered hope of new ways of teaching addicts "self-control".
Alas this study cannot help Crystal Warren or even Holmes for that matter who needs to be educated as to what is the true nature of addiction!
I think the key word is self control. Addiction problem can be solved but an addict needs to have a strong will power. More than anything else, the addict needs to understand the problem himself. You can only get out of the mess by yourself. No one can help you. It all starts as we want to escape from the reality as it sucks big time & then it becomes a habit. The discovery that abnormalities in the brain may make some people more likely to become drug addicts can help only if you want to get out of the mess yourself.
And it’s not just cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, etc that are drugs. Even official drug is the worst kind of intoxication that slowly kills the patient. Doctors recommend these official drugs at a very young age & then all those who are suffering from clinical depression & other mental illnesses pay the price. We become addicts too & we are not different. We just want to escape as we are so angry & hurt. These meds even make us reckless; we just live on the edge because we don't care whether we live or we die. But my experience is that you can fight with addiction. You have to have will power. You don't even need medicine for certain diseases, you can fight with them yourself. Mind is really the most potent weapon. It can do wonders.
