A Belgian politician Filip Dewinter, leader of the far-right Vlaams Belang party, uses a shot of his daughter An-Sofie Dewinter for the political campaign. He has started this 'Women Against Islamization' campaign featuring his 19-year-old daughter wearing a burka and a bikini.
The poster shows the words 'Freedom or Islam?' written on a red bar across Ms Dewinter's breasts. Further down the poster a black panel with the words 'You choose!' is seen covering the teenager's crotch.
The party wants women to take a stand against Islam. And this indeed is some choice: Islam or Freedom? It’s so much fun to see how they take off their clothes to fight against a religion which has been used by fanatics for their own petty issues. Even the style of protest is equally weird. I can totally understand why moderate Muslims say they do not agree with the group's hardline stance, because this really does not make any sense. You want to fight against injustice. Fine. But you don’t have to take off your clothes to prove this bizarre point that you actually blame Islam for everything. It’s the people who have given it a bad name. History is full of such examples. Why can’t Muslims get this thing straight? Anyhow, Ms Dewinter herself suggested the idea of the poster & she doesn’t feel used by the party.
She said: 'I've suggested (the poster) myself, I have learned to live with it but I have had everything up to death threats made at me.'
She said that she ' wanted to make this statement.'
She added: 'What is the greatest contrast with a niqab? Nude.
'The campaign fits in perfectly with how I feel about the whole issue . As women, we must choose: freedom or Islam.'
The teenager claimed that she had been threatened by Muslim groups. I guess that was inevitable.
She added: 'Death threats and criticism no longer scare me off.'
Her father, the party's leader, said: 'Women are always the first victims of Islam. We want to make clear that they have a choice.'
I think her father needs to go through all the sacred texts & maybe he will find the answer that this is not the way to protest. You need to open your mind rather than asking your daughters to wear burka & bikini for protest. Since the beginning of time, we all know the ignorant had screamed the loudest. They defended their own selfish aims & worldly desires by citing Holy texts which they couldn’t understand themselves; there are layers of meaning, which are much beyond people of closed minds. Such people have always celebrated their intolerance as a proof of their convictions. I don’t think taking off your clothes is the right way to fight such lost creatures. I have nothing against people posing naked or in bikinis. Try to understand the problem rather than reacting in a way that might get your kids into deep shit.
It’s saddening that people in the Muslim world do not even know how to protest. They have been suppressed so badly that they have started believing nudity is the best way to fight against evil men. And they have been confusing as to what fanatics are doing for their own benefit with the teachings of Islam. Well as I have been able to understand not even a single sacred book is that easy for interpretation. And sadly, Muslims never even bother to read the translation of the Holy Quran. Had they bothered to read the text, they might have known as to who is the culprit. They wouldn’t point out towards any religion; it’s the people who have created the mess.
And when Ms. Dewinter you choose what you’ve got to choose, we would just say one thing – don’t ever pose in a low quality bikini again. You don’t rock at all! We’ve seen too many sexy people going completely naked while protesting for the rights of animals. Perhaps Ms. Dewinter’s poster is much fun for those who are threatening her. The rest of us are having a good laugh. Next time, do it the right way, ma’am. It’s just that educated people have got high standards; we sometimes don’t understand your way of protesting, but we don’t mind seeing good stuff.
