Dev Anand will always be missed

I have been thinking about writing something on Dev Anand but I’ve only seen few movies of this actor. My parents really liked him. And I must have seen Solva Saal with my elder brother Tariq & Z a zillion times. He was definitely by far the best journalist I have seen. The songs were amazing. It’s difficult to choose one. Hai apna di tou awaara, Yeh hee tou hai wo, Nazar ki katari & the title song Solva Saal itself still rock to this day.

Even in CID, he looked cool & the song Lay kay pehla pehla pyaar has been one of my favourites. I also liked the song Chhod do aanchal (Paying Guest), Jo bhi pyaar say mila, Tadbir se bigdi hui taqdeer, Aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai & Pyar karnay walay tou pyaar hee karain gay (Guide).

Although I’ve heard a lot about his affair with Suraiya but I haven’t seen any movie. Anyhow, they were paired in 7 movies together.

“She fell in love with him during the shooting of the song Kinare kinare chale jayen ge from the film Vidya—while shooting the scene, the boat they were in capsized, and Anand saved Suraiya from drowning.”

Ashok Kumar was the person who gave Dev Anand his 1st big break in Ziddi along with Kamini Khausal & this was an instant hit. While working in Taxi Driver, he proposed Kalpana Karthik & they did work in a couple of movies together but Kalpana stopped working after her marriage.

People also compared him with Gregory Peck but he very rightly said,’ I don't want to be known as India's Gregory Peck, I am Dev Anand.’

I haven’t seen his movies with Zeenat Aman cause I don’t like odd couples & that song Dum maro dum never clicked me as such. Even as a kid, I wasn’t fascinated when I heard that these 2 had an affair at some point.

Des Pardes was a good movie & all the songs were ab fab but he seemed too old for Tina Munim. He was the one who introduced her.

Anyway, I think Dev Anand was a good actor & he sounded educated in the real sense when he talked.

You must check out his old movies. He was very good-looking, beyond any reasonable doubt. It’s just that we have seen him as an old man, so most of us have no idea. CID, & Solva Saal are a must watch.

May his soul rest in peace!
