This is a remarkable story of a girl who went through 27 operations in the past 10 years.
Alice Skinner, from Hartlepool, was born without kidneys. After going through 10 years of treatment, tests & surgeries, now she’s looking forward to her 11th birthday. Her father thought she wouldn’t even make it in the beginning but this brave girl has come a long way. And she had her final operation just two weeks ago.
Her father George, 41, said: 'There were times when we thought she wouldn’t make it. We see each birthday as a milestone. We never thought we would see this far. She’s a proper grown-up little lady now too.'
Btw, Alice was the youngest person in UK to receive dialysis & she was only 6 months old at that time. She got her transplant in 2008 but that too was an imperfect match. However, after this surgery she had all sorts of junk food & carbonated drinks she wasn’t allowed earlier.
Moreover, she was on dialysis for seven long years & that was really tough on her. And you won’t believe it…although she faced so many complications but she plays table-tennis & represents Newcastle as a member of the hospital's Children’s Transplant Games Team. And she had also been awarded a ‘Child of Courage’ award for her health problems when she was just three.
We are really proud of Alice & we wish her much happiness & health. Despite all the odds, this girl has made it. It’s good to see that impossible situations & battles are not really all that impossible. Miracles happen almost every day. You shouldn’t ever give up.
